Mesilla is much like an old Mexican city built around a square with the church at one end.  Much of the architecture is historic adobe.  Many of the old buildings have been restored, such as this historic home that has recently been converted into a sandwich/pastry and tea/coffee shop.  There are newer homes in the Mesilla area, but as much as possible the homes tend to retain the historic adobe look and feel.
